There is no Exit Ticket today. I'm conducting an experiment with Google classroom instead. I've sent each of you an email inviting you to join our Google classroom. I would like you to do that. Then follow the instructions you see there. I'm attempting to figure out the best way for presentations starting on the 20th. I had something else figured out, but it didn't work the way I wanted it to. So, I'm going to plan B!

Welcome to Wednesday! Keep working on your speeches! Ask me questions, ask me to review things, let me help you when you need help! I will have instructions for you Friday on how I would like to proceed with actual presentations. So work on those speeches today!!! Please also get today's Exit Ticket filled out so I don't miss you when I take attendance.

Hey everyone! Welcome to class today. Please make sure you complete today's Exit Ticket. If you do not, I will not count you present in class. Most of you did not complete Friday's Exit Ticket, so I know that most of you (13 of you!!!) DID NOT read everything I asked you to read! If you're going to be successful in this class, especially during this time, I really need you to take this class seriously! Work on your speeches, read the things I ask you to read, and do the things I ask you to do.

I want you to continue working on creating your speeches today. If you can't remember the requirements of your speeches, take a look here. When you get to a point that you want my assistance, you need to let me know; otherwise, I'm going to assume that you have things under control. Ask me questions if you have any, and I will respond to your emails as soon as I possibly can. Remember, you have your textbook on my website for guidance as well. It probably won't help you much with the Narrative Speech, but it definitely will with the other two.

Welcome back to school! Wow! It's been an interesting Spring Break for sure!
I hope all of you are doing well.

I guess I'll start off by explaining to you how I anticipate the next few weeks will go in this class. If you have a copy of your speech calendar, you'll notice that the next three weeks are marked out as "WORK DAYS." I see no reason why we cannot continue that plan. That means that I expect you to work on your speeches for at least a minimum of 1 ½ hours each day that we are scheduled to meet. That means 1 ½ hours this week (4/3), 4 ½ hours next week (4/6, 4/8, 4/10), and 3 hours the following week (4/15, 4/17). This not only includes time worked on speeches, but practice time as well. Practice, practice, practice! You have an audience at home ... USE THEM!

Every day we have class, I want you to come to my website here to check in. Anytime during the day, as long as you make it on that day, I'll be happy. Sometimes I will have things for you to read that might help you with your speeches. Sometimes I'll have Exit Tickets that I'd like you to respond to in order to see how you're doing in class. Sometimes I might have full blown assignments that I need you to complete. If you're not sure what days you should login to my website to look for updates, then just take a look at your speech calendar (or the dates in the above paragraph).

As of right now, schools are on a "soft closure" until April 20th. That means that our first group of presenters will not be able to present in front of the class that day. With this in mind, I want everyone to know that my schedule of presentations will not be changing. If you were scheduled to present on the 20th, then you will still be presenting on the 20th. I'm just not sure how you're going to be presenting yet. :)

For this week, I have a simple assignment that I would like you to complete for me, as well as an Exit Ticket (at the bottom of this page). Here is what I need you to do:

  1. Create a new folder in your Google drive.
  2. Title your folder: Speeches Lastname (for example: "Speeches Smiggleheimerweitzhausen"
  3. Share this new folder with matt.king@tjcharterschool.org (NOT my vallivue.org address)
  4. Create three documents in your folder
  5. Title file #1 - 2020 Narrative (for example: "2020 Narrative")
  6. Title file #2 - 2020 Informative (for example: "2020 Informative")
  7. Title file #3 - 2020 Persuasive (for example: "2020 Persuasive")
These are the files that I will be looking at these next few weeks when assisting you with your speeches. You can keep anything else in this folder that you would like, but as of right now, I'm only interested in those three files.

Finally, please take a few (well, more than a few) minutes to answer the questions and prompts on this form. You MUST login with your tjcharterschool email address (in case you're on someone else's Google account right now). You can only submit the form one time.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me! During school hours, you'll probably get a response from me within minutes. After school hours, I'll do my best, but I'm usually pretty good. I will have more information for you on Monday to help you with your speeches. So make sure to come back here on Monday to see what's next!
